I decided to take yesterday off partly because Tim had already posted a picture the night before but mostly because I had a crazy bad headache and I ended up in bed by 7:30. So, please forgive me. I'll resume the photos and I promise I won't miss another one.
Today, we have Shankbone, Jizzdude, and G-Mac hanging out with Rocko at the Pit Stop. Can I get a "Woop! Woop!"?
This was probably about a year pre-HOBO. We looked younger then. I think that first year of HOBO aged us about 5 years. I think Gregas is wearing some dangly earrings in this picture too.

Today's picture features the Seniors from 1998's Speedboys Basketball Squad. To explain the crutches, most people would believe that Gregas probably hurt himself playing basketball. In the comments, be creative, and let me know the "real" way that Gregas hurt himself.
Not that I don't appreciate the outpouring of... affection(?) that has seized the site, but it's getting to a point where it's borderline uncomfortable. Yes, we all had a great Fourth of July. Yes, we all became friendly with a lot of people (...some more than others). And Yes, we know that alcohol probably had a lot to do with both. All that is over now. It's now been 3 weeks since the HOBOs dominated the Bessemer Blast and it's time to look forward to future and less... amorous(?) topics.
As everyone on the planet is probably aware of, the HOBO Mustache Contest and Hobowl are just four short months away. That should give everyone just enough time to recover financially from the bankruptcy of Independence Day. To go along with these mainstay HOBO events, there is also a new event planned to complement the Thanksgiving weekend. I am happy to introduce "The 1st Annual HOBIES."
I have to admit that I am not clever enough to come up with a scheme of such great proportions. Nor am I contrarian enough to stand in judgement of any HOBO. Yet, there exists a duo among us that will be in charge of the execution of our very own HOBO Awards Night. The details are still shrouded in mystery but I have been privvy to some limited information regarding the basis of this spectacle. The location is undetermined but the attire is said to be "Brown Tie." That is, dress as a hobo would, Vinnie's jacket, old sweats, fingerless gloves... whatever (it's up to your interpretation). There will be presenters and awards handed out for such (rumored) categories as Best High Five, the Ryan Brown Mustache Man of the Year, and HOBO of the year. There may be speeches, guest speakers, videos, presentations, and skits. There will certainly be beer.
Speaking of this hallowed weekend, I would like to hear from the masses about the Mustache Contest rules. I don't want to say that there was a controversy over the rules last year, but at the very least there was some confusion. So please vote on latest poll. More will follow.
In other HOBO news, the process of endowing the new members of HOBO with their Super Powers and Roles is nearing completion. Look for the bestowment process to begin sometime next week.
Also in the spirit of steering the hoboswalk.com boat in a new direction, I wanted to mention a few sporting events and see if there is any interest out there. First off the Brewers are fast approaching the playoffs and there are only 4 good tailgating weekends left (Aug 17, Aug 31, Sep 14, Sep 28). If you haven't made it to one of our Brewers tailgates, then you are missing out on quite a show. We're slowly perfecting the art of the Miller Park tailgate. Hopefully some of you can make it to the few remaining games at home. I will also be making a journey down to Miller Park South to watch the Crew disappoint many a Cubs fan on August 30th. If anyone wants to make it to a game during that series, then count me in.

That's right there are only 61 days until the one day of the year that truly deserves to be called "The Fourth", and only 56 days until start of the HOBO Fourth of July Festivities. I hope that everyone is starting to get as amped up about it as I am. However we don't have a whole lot of time. 56 days, that's only 4 fortnights or 1,344 hours or 1,451,520 Heleks. Luckily this is our second time around, so we should be very resourceful and efficient this year.
This year promises to be the biggest and best celebration that HOBO has ever seen. With the "The Fourth" being on Wednesday this year, that means we have an extra day of events to plan. Back again this year will be such favorites and the Chicken Wing Breakfast, HOBOlympics, the Kickball Classic, HOBO Formal Night, The Main Event and of course the Photo Scavenger Hunt. It may include some possible new events, like the Bar Sport Mini-Games, Free Dogs for Drinkers, HOBO-meter Parade Scoring, the HOBO Beer Garden, and the HOBO Pre-Parade Tailgate. Plus a few surprises to boot!
Sounds like a lot, I know. But how do you know that you've gone too far until you go there? Last year there were a few casualties. Old Style felled the Giant, a strange pinched nerve affliction to Jaybles, and too many prairie fires (one = too many) made for a rough Formal Night for TO. This year however, we've prepared ourselves and should be in peak physical condition to put in an extended shift for the 2007 celebration.
We are taking a distributed approach to the planning of the events this year and breaking up into small committees, which are to be solely responsible for one small chunk of the planning. It is our hope that this will provide a means for everyone to feel involved without making it feel too much like work. This also spreads out the workload so that a few people don't feel responsible for everything. I've talked with a few people who have volunteered to help out with some aspect of the festivities but if anyone else would like to volunteer just let me know. Call, IM, email, or just leave a comment on this post.
Keep an eye out for the posting of the final scedule of events and spread the word! Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the kegs, sports, food, beers, video games, HOBOs, chicks, poker runs, photos, loose-meat sandwiches, mustaches, dumbness.... THE FOURTH!
We should have fun.
