I want to let everyone in on some bad news that I just heard. I called my dad this morning and he said that the 4th of July Committee called him down at the VFW this morning to tell them to cancel any events that were planned for down there. He said that the 4th of July Committee has decided not to go forward with this year's celebration.

What he was told, is that there is not enough funding for this year's events. With the increase in prices of gas and other items they felt they couldn't hold any of the events. Also, they were lacking on volunteers, so they decided to cancel this year's events.

He was told that they are teaming with Wakefield for the parade and fireworks over Sunday Lake, but this is all that will be happening in the area this year.

Again this year for the 4th of July, we will be holding a poker run. We will be doing a little different spin on it. We will have the $100 drawing on the 29th, 30th, 1st, and the 2nd at midnight. On the 3rd, the drawing will be at 10 pm. After the 10 pm drawing on the 3rd, we will invite all the previous winners back for a grand finale drawing. The amount to be determined by the amount of money we obtain from all involved.
The cost for each establishment will be $50.
This year we are not just including the bars, but including each and every business that wishes to be involved. This seemed to work well when we did it for the Sled Fest, and I heard a lot of good feedback. Many businesses other than the bars can benifit, and I am encouraging all to participate. The final stop has yet to be determined. This will be a 100% payback, and another fun event to be involved in.
I need to know your answer by Wednesday in order to get in published in the 4th of July brochure.

The fact that businesses in addition to bars is a little concerning, but the event we should be gearing toward is the grand final drawing.

In a nutshell, we need to poker run hard this year. Crazy hard.

Today, I would like everyone to remember the good times had at the Booby Hatch. I have just received word that there has been a fire at the Hatch and it is burning down. Thank you to Cheryl and everyone at the Hatch. HOBO has had a great time there. Our thoughts are out to you and we hope nobody was hurt in the fire.

HOBO would like to give a big thank you to all the businesses, people, and organizations that helped us, let us have fun there, or partied with us this year. It was great for a bunch of friends who just want to have a good time to get so many people behind them and support them. A Big HOBO Thank You goes out to the following:

Ore House - First off, we would love to thank the Ore House for everything they did for us, and especially for having the best pizza in the area... and maybe the world! Even though they weren't on the Poker Run this year, the Ore House will always be one of our stops. Thank you for all the pizza and beer and especially for sponsoring our Foosball Tournament with a gift certificate. Next year, we will schedule the 2nd Annual HOBO Foosball Tournament at the Ore House.

The Bessemer 4th of July Committee - Thank you for putting on the great 4th of July festivities every year. Without that we would never be able to have as much fun as we do. The rumor out there is that the committee even caught wind of some of our ideas and wants to put some into next year's 4th Schedule. We may have to clean things up a little bit for that, though.

Pub and Grub - Thank you for being such great hosts and allowing us to play our Quarters tournament there. We'll definitely plan to spend some time there next 4th.

Norman Korpi - I'd like to thank the Real World star for being gracious enough to allow us to take some photos and video with him for the scavenger hunt and the video. Make sure to check out his website and order his movie or get it with your Netflix account. We'd also like to invite Norm to hang out with us and go on a Poker Run next year and maybe we can make him a member of HOBO. Maybe we can even set the Real World/HOBO Challenge. We'd be better than those Road Rules guys.

Bessemer VFW - The "V" is the place to be. They've even hosted our poker games before. It's always a nice place to go with nice people. Visit them and get a drink from Pat or Myra. Visit them and buy some Pull Tabs to support the Vets.

Boulder Creek Golf Course - Thank you to Boulder for letting us have a putting contest on the green and then hosting our HOBO Open. They even penciled in a tee time for us at 3 after seeing our sign. Sorry, we were late though. HOBOs don't get going very quick.

Uncle Sam's - We're always happy to see Meatball and Jean Ann. I was even able to get an Uncle Sam's hat.

Pit Stop - The Pit Stop was kind enough to let us put up some HOBO cracker backers right underneath where they had THE PIT STOP spelled up with cracker backers.

Gin Mill - I know the bartenders at the Gin Mill visit the site. They were all talking about it. Thank you for putting up with us.

Booby Hatch - The Hatch has long been a gathering place for HOBOs. Cheryl is also responsible for taking care of the Poker Run. Thank you for that, and dealing us two winners this year. We need to make it a sweep next year, though. Also thank you for the great pizza fries.

Dig Inn/JJ's Yale Bar - Even thought it will always be the Dig Inn to me, it is now called JJ's. I don't care what they want to call it. It's the Dig Inn. I used to walk up there and get candy bars when I was a kid, so it's not going to change names to me. Still, the Dig is great plus HOBOs like to go on the roof of the Dig.

Big Dollar - Big Dollar was the place for the bulk of our beer and supply purchases over the 4th. Be sure to shop ther for the finest Old Milwaukee and Boone's Farm.

John Hellman - John took it upon himself to spread the HOBO word and tell tons of people about our website. He really got the town talking.

The King and Enni - Thank you to the Gregas's for allowing HOBOs to gather at their house many times over the 4th.

Dwight - Thank you to my dad for letting me park his truck on the main street all these years. HOBO should owe you a case of Old Style.

Mott and Julie - Thank you to these two for being the driver many times this 4th as well as tons and tons of times over the past couple years.

I'm sure there are many more people out there who deserve thanks. If any other HOBO comes across someone they would like to thank, please post it in the comments. I'd also like to tell everyone who is visiting this site to please leave a comment to a post and add yourself to our map. We like to know who comes here. Also, remember to support all the businesses above. They've been great and are some of the greatest place I've been to. Next year we'll have to try to make the 4th even bigger!
